Adkins Publicity

Exclusive PR / Publicity Representation of Gene Watson / Contact Scott Adkins at Adkins Publicity in Nashville

For exclusive PR / publicity representation of Gene Watson, contact Scott Adkins at Adkins Publicity in Nashville.

Gene Watson's Peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as 'the singer's singer' - and rightly so!

All of Gene Watson's Peers, who were contacted during 2019, were most gracious with their time and words.

It is here, within this special part of The Gene Watson Fan Site, that you have an opportunity to read a quote from Pete Burke, which he submitted to this site on Thursday 10 January 2019.

Sean Brady would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' to Pete Burke who made a special contribution to this unique part of this online 'celebration of a Lone Star Hero'.

'I will be glad to.

I can tell you this.

Gene Watson is a great guy and he is a people person.

I loved being in his band and I would do it again if he asked me to'

Thank you, Pete Burke, for your support of Gene Watson.

About Pete Burke...

Pete Burke with Gene Watson

Pete Burke was, at the time of the acquisition of this 'Peer's Quote' about Gene Watson, a member of the Posse 2017 'CMA Band of The Year'.

In 1973, Pete Burke started playing music professionally, and music has been his life since he was five years old.

Pete Burke's mother took him to The Old Hay Barn Opry in Shepard, Texas to see his grandfather, Pete Burke Sr., play his piano with a number of Nashville's recording artists, including Jean Shepard (Tuesday 21 November 1933 - Sunday 25 September 2016) and Gordon Terry (Wednesday 7 October 1931 - Sunday 9 April 2006).

Pete Burke's father played stand-up bass with Willie Nelson, and Hank Thompson (Thursday 3 September 1925 - Tuesday 6 November 2007), and Pete was one of the original Cherokee Cowboys with Ray Price (Tuesday 12 January 1926 - Monday 16 December 2013) in the 1960s.

In the late 1970s, Pete Burke's best friend, David Bates, and Pete started writing songs together and they formed a rock band called 'Last Page'.  They created and recorded more than they played live because it was very hard to book an all original band in night clubs.

Pete Burke was very blessed to play in some of the best local bands in Houston area of East Texas.

In the mid-1980s, Pete Burke teamed up with guitar player Kenny Jackson.  They formed a group called 'The Sudden Urge Band', with Kenny's brother, Mike Jackson on drums, and Big Wally 'Larry Witt', who played blues guitar and drove everyone to the gigs.

'The Sudden Urge Band' played country music, blues, southern rock, classic rock and Top 40 material.  The versatility of the music they played was the magic of 'The Sudden Urge Band'.

Pete Burke was also blessed to play with many great artists, including Randy Cornor, Mundo Earwood, Roy Head, Joey Long, Gene Thomas and Kelly Schoppa.

Pete Burke had the honour and privilege to play with Gene Watson and became a member of Gene's highly acclaimed Farewell Party Band (1996 - 1998)

In 1996, Pete Burke had the honour and privilege to play with Gene Watson and became a member of Gene's highly acclaimed Farewell Party Band.

Pete Burke played the hallowed stage of The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with Gene Watson & The Farewell Party Band (1996 - 1998)

Pete Burke played the hallowed stage of The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with Gene Watson & The Farewell Party Band, but he left the band in 1998 due to family illness.

Pete Burke would, however, play with Gene Watson anytime Gene would ever need Pete.

Pete Burke considers his days with Gene Watson to be the best days of his life.

Pete Burke played many concerts and a few television shows with Gene Watson, and used what he had learned when he came off the road.

Pete Burke then got one of the best jobs ever at RT Studio, where he helped Kenny Jackson on various music projects, when he would have to record lead guitar and steel guitar.
