On Monday 29 September 2025, Gene Watson recalled his induction, in June 1978, into the Country Music Hall of Fame’s ‘Walkway of The Stars’.

‘I was recently asked about the time, back on Wednesday 7 June 1978, when I was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame’s ‘Walkway of The Stars’ – thanks to journalist, Tom Roland, for keeping up with the date on that!

Other inductees that day included Willie Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis (Sunday 29 September 1935 – Friday 28 October 2022), Joe Stampley and Narvel Felts – so I was in good company.

Later, a new ‘Walkway of The Stars’ was built in the Opry area and, once again, I put my prints in the concrete as you can see in this photo dated Wednesday 10 October 1984.

Usually, when someone wants to put you in concrete, it’s not gonna end well – but I made it through twice.

A third time might not go well, so I hope someone’s got this preserved somewhere!’
