On Tuesday 24 March 2026, Gene Watson reflected on the release, in 1962, of his debut single, ‘If It’s That Easy’.
‘My very first single was out in 1962.
It got played on a few stations, but never charted.
I was 19 years old, and back then, there was no overdubbing on vocals, so what you hear is my first take.
My office just shakes their head when I tell them I was so new to the business side of music that, even though I wrote this song, I just allowed the studio owner, Ray Whitlock, to put his name on the record, because he had an established publishing company.
