Gene Watson’s Peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as ‘the singer’s singer’ – and rightly so!
All of Gene Watson’s Peers, who were contacted during 2010, were most gracious with their time and words.
It is here, within this special part of The Gene Watson Fan Site, that you have an opportunity to read a quote from Steve Maynard, which he submitted to this site on Friday 2 July 2010.
Sean Brady would like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to Steve Maynard who made a special contribution to this unique part of this online ‘celebration of a Lone Star Hero’.

‘Sean, thank you so much for the invite to submit a quote for my favourite singer, Gene Watson.
Thanks also for the amazing compliment on my CD.
Here’s what I have to say about Gene!
Gene Watson is what all country singers are striving to be, but unfortunately most fall short of. There is not anyone who has ever picked up a microphone and tried to follow Gene on one of his songs who hasn’t gained respect for this amazing talent.
What Gene does with ease, us normal singers find a constant struggle.
Gene not only inspired me to want to be able to sing like him, but he also inspired me to chase the dream. He paved roads years ago that us younger artists are still walking down.
God blesses everyone differently and he must’ve seen something in a young Gene Watson that caused him to put a little extra blessing on him, ’cause when he opens his mouth, it’s like an angel from Heaven.
My biggest compliment is when someone says ‘you sound a little like Gene Watson on that song’.
Thank you, Gene Watson, my very favourite singer, for inspiring us every time you sing!’
Thank you, Steve Maynard, for your support of Gene Watson.
About Steve Maynard…
Steve Maynard grew up in Leander, a small town outside of Austin, Texas.
Being one of twelve children, Steve Maynard was musically influenced by his Dad and older brothers, along with the country classics.
Playing honky tonks as a teenager, Steve Maynard landed a record deal with Polygram Records in Nashville when he was twenty-three years old.
With a four year run on Polygram Records and very little success, Steve Maynard then signed with Sony Records; however, another unsuccessful two years in the country music business followed.
Steve Maynard and his wife had started a family and Steve had all but given up on the country music business until an old friend, his former producer Steve Hennig, talked him into getting back into the recording studio to record new music.
With a new found energy and passion for producing, writing and recording music, Steve Maynard is now currently enjoying playing five shows a week at a classic country music tribute show called ‘San Antonio Rose Live’.
Steve Maynard has also started his own publishing company called Rio Bravo Music and, at the time of the acquisition of this Gene Watson ‘Peer’s Quote’, on Friday 2 July 2010, he was seeking a career as a songwriter.
In June 2010, Steve Maynard saw the release of his debut album; ‘One More Day To Live’ (Steve Maynard Independent Release, 2010) was given a 5-Star rating and awarded the ‘CD of The Month’ accolade in the July 2010 issue of the United Kingdom’s influential Country Music People.
