Sanger D. ‘Whitey’ Shafer (Wednesday 24 October 1934 – Saturday 12 January 2019) had written some of the most momentous country songs of the last four decades, including ‘I Just Started Hatin’ Cheatin’ Songs Today’ (recorded by Moe Bandy), ‘Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind’ (recorded by George Strait), ‘All My Exes Live in Texas’ (recorded by George Strait), ‘I Wonder Do You Think of Me’, which was recorded by Keith Whitley (Thursday 1 July 1954 – Tuesday 9 May 1989), and his tribute to his friend, ‘Lefty’s Gone’ (recorded by George Strait).
It was around this time when Sanger D. ‘Whitey’ Shafer (Wednesday 24 October 1934 – Saturday 12 January 2019) was suffering from a lung disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
