On Tuesday 4 July 2023, Gene Watson & The Farewell Party Band participated in the 4th July celebrations in Staunton, Virginia.
‘Happy Fourth of July!

We started our day off in the best possible way with a good old-fashioned hometown parade in Staunton, Virginia.
The people along the route were so friendly and the weather was beautiful there.

There were fun activities all day and, of course, the day ended with a big free concert in Gypsy Hill Park with Wilson Fairchild and us.
Of course, the fun capped off with a big Fireworks display. You can see, in these photos, that we had quite a large time, and the Wilson Fairchild float was right before us.

It was everything and more for a special day. We really enjoyed visiting with the great Don Reid of The Statler Brothers and Langdon Reid (Don’s son) and the late, Harold Reid’s son, Wil Reid.
Langdon and Wil, who together are known as Wilson Fairchild, are carrying on the grand tradition of their fathers with their humour, great voices and all-around excellent entertainment.
At the evening show, we shared the stage with Wilson Fairchild to sing ‘Fourteen Carat Mind’, which was written by Dallas Frazier (Friday 27 October 1939 – Friday 14 January 2022) and Larry Lee Favorite (1939 – Monday 26 May 2001) and, of course, ended with our signature song, ‘Farewell Party’, which was written by Lawton Williams (Monday 24 July 1924 – Thursday 26 July 2007).
The impressive fireworks signaled the end of a great day for everyone in attendance’
