On Thursday 19 March 2026, Gene Watson reflected on two entertaining nights, both onstage and backstage, at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
‘On Tuesday 17 March 2026, at the Grand Ole Opry, my buddy, T. Graham Brown, made me laugh when he came by wearing one of my Tee shirts.
He gave a tremendous performance on the Opry – what a voice!
I was also honored with a visit from a surprise guest, Gretchen Wilson – you know her monster hit, ‘Redneck Woman’ – another powerhouse vocalist that wowed the Opry audience’
‘Redneck Woman’ (written by Gretchen Wilson and John Rich) was Gretchen Wilson’s debut single, and was released on Monday 15 March 2004, and was a track included on her debut album, ‘Here For The Party’ (Epic Records, 2004).
Gretchen Wilson’s ‘Redneck Woman’ was No.1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks Chart for five weeks in early 2004, No.22 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop music singles chart in 2004, No.50 on the Australian Singles Chart in 2004, No.45 on the Irish Singles Chart in 2004, and No.42 on the United Kingdom Singles Chart in 2004.
Gretchen Wilson’s ‘Redneck Woman’, which is considered her signature song, earned a Grammy Award for ‘Best Female Country Vocal Performance’ at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards in 2005.

We enjoyed visits with great friends, The Malpass Brothers (don’t miss their show!), who are so talented and funny, the amazing Rhonda Vincent (we sang ‘Together Again’), Jason Crabb (tremendous voice!) and the fabulous Wendy Moten (you’ve seen her on ‘The Voice’ where she was runner-up).
I enjoyed meeting singer/songwriter, Steve Earle (Steve grew up in Texas), comedian (and singer!) Chonda Pierce, and singer/songwriter, Skip Ewing.
I recorded Skip‘s song ‘Some Fools’ on my last album, ‘Outside The Box‘ (Fourteen Carat Music, 2022)’
