On Wednesday 20 March 2024, Gene Watson was in Nashville for a benefit show, which was taking place for his good friend and producer, Dirk Johnson.
‘I’m in Nashville today for our good friend Dirk Johnson‘s benefit, and thanks to all of you that made this a sold out show.
We had a great evening for our friend, Dirk Johnson.
We raised a great amount of money, and hope he felt the love in the room.
Backstage, it was like a country family reunion, as it was the first time seeing so many old friends who came to perform.
The 45rpm Band was smokin’ hot doing their own show, as well as backing all of us.
Special thanks to Jim ‘Moose’ Brown and Mike Johnson for all their hard work.
It was a heartfelt night as a bunch of friends came together for a sold-out benefit in honour of Dirk Johnson.
As most of you know, Dirk Johnson has been my producer for many years now, and so I was thankful I could be on hand for this good event.
Held at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville, the concert was pulled together by Jim ‘Moose’ Brown, songwriter, session player, and producer.
Moose has played on over 40 No.1 hit songs, is a longtime member of Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet Band, and holds a Grammy for writing ‘It’s Five O’clock Somewhere’, which was recorded by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett (Wednesday 25 December 1946 – Friday 1 September 2023).
Along with Moose, Mike and Joanie Johnson, Jimmy Melton and all of the 45rpm Band worked tirelessly to back all the artists to perfection.
Performing that night was 45rpm, Jim ‘Moose’ Brown, Erin Enderlin, Teea Goans, Linda Davis & Lang Scott, Mo Pitney, me and, ending the night with his string of hits, Jamey Johnson.
Some that were in the audience were Bill Anderson, Ben Hall, Keith and Emy Jo Bilbrey, Mona ‘Nadine’ Brown, and all the way from Northern Ireland, Lisa McHugh.
It was a very special night for Dirk Johnson and his family, and we all pray for his continued recovery’
