On Monday 24 October 2022, Gene Watson announced that he had been presented with a special gift, courtesy of the Texas House of Representatives in Austin.

I was blown away this past week when I was given a very precious gift.
A longtime fan of real country music, Shawn Tully, and the Texas House of Representatives, gave me the certified Texas flag that was flown at the Texas Capitol in my honour on Tuesday 11 October 2022.
The document enclosed with the flag states that the flag was flown in honour of my 79th birthday and for 60 Years of Music.
This surprise just blew my mind.
Thank you, Shawn Tully, the House of Representatives and the great state of Texas for this tremendous tribute.
