On Friday 17 April 2026, Gene Watson mourned the passing of Grand Ole Opry brother, and songwriting legend, Don Schlitz.
(Friday 29 August 1952 – Thursday 16 April 2026)
‘We were deeply saddened to learn today that Grand Ole Opry brother, and songwriting legend, Don Schlitz, passed from a quick illness this week (on Thursday 16 April 2026) at just 73 years of age.
Don was not only a great songwriter, but a gifted performer, and could hold the Opry audience in his hand with just his songs and acoustic guitar.
Some of his greatest hits include ‘The Gambler’, ‘When You Say Nothing At All’, ‘Forever & Ever, Amen’, and so many more.
We send our thoughts and prayers to his family.
