On Saturday 23 May 2026, Gene Watson recalled a most unusual show from October 2011.
‘I’ve played a lot of honky tonks and some odd places, but one of the most unusual shows was when we performed for a living man’s ‘funeral’ on Sunday 30 October 2011.
It was a ‘Roast Before He’s Toast’ party for Louisiana businessman, Robert Gentry, who was alive and well.
The ‘funeral’ included a tuxedo-ed procession and 500 guests.
The show was listed as his ‘Final Fling’ and held at the Rebel State Historic Site in Marthaville, Louisiana’
