On Tuesday 10 September 2024, Gene Watson remembered George Jones’ hit song, and video, ‘I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair’.
‘Back on this day (Thursday 10 September) in 1992, George Jones (Saturday 12 September 1931 – Friday 26 April 2013) released his hit song, and video, ‘I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair’, which was written by Billy Yates, Frank Dycus (Tuesday 5 December 1939 – Friday 23 November 2012 and Kerry Kurt Philips.
As a single, it only went to No.34 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks Chart, but the song won the 1993 Country Music Association (CMA) Award for ‘Vocal Event of The Year’.
George wasn’t happy with country music radio back then for saying it was ‘too country‘.
Sound familiar?’
