On Monday 31 July 2023, Gene Watson reflected on a weekend of fun, when he and his highly acclaimed Farewell Party Band, performed at Marshland Festival in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on the evening of Saturday 29 July 2023.
‘It may be my ‘job’ to sing for a living, but it always feels like I’m just having fun.
I really enjoy being onstage, singing, and interacting with the fans.
When the crowd is especially lively, it keeps us all on our toes and we do our best to give back the same energy.
I don’t know if we quite had the same energy as the fans at the Lake Charles, Louisiana show this past weekend – but we did our best!
There were 5,000 music fans there, and it was a huge day of music, with plenty of great Cajun’ style as well as country.
We just appreciated that so many folks came out to hear ‘live’ music.

Country Cajun legend, Jo-El Sonnier, held court on Friday night’s stage, and then he even came out to hear my show on Saturday night (29 July 2023).
Jo-El and I go way back, so it was a pleasure to visit with him again.
We hope to see all our fans in Louisiana again soon!’
