On Sunday 28 February 2021, Gene Watson reminisced about his days when he worked on cars.

Gene Watson washing the tires (tyres) of a 1984 Mercury Capri Rally Sport (5.0 GT engine, 4 barrel carb, 4 speed on the floor and lock up rear end), which was damaged in a hurricane at South West Lincoln & Mercury, where Gene Watson used to work. The 1984 Mercury Capri Rally Sport was brand new, but the dealership sign had fallen on it. Gene Watson fixed it up and traded it for a Chevrolet Vega 1/4 Mile Super Pro Drag car.  If Gene Watson is not singing, this is the thing that he loves to do!

‘This was a 1984 Mercury Capri Rally Sport that was damaged in a hurricane at the South West Lincoln & Mercury where I used to work.  It was brand new.  The dealership sign fell on it.

That Rally Sport was fast.  5.0 GT engine, 4 barrel carb, 4 speed on the floor and lock up rear end.  It was Mercury’s version of the Mustang GT.

I fixed it up and traded it for a Chevrolet Vega 1/4 Mile Super Pro Drag car!  That’s me washing the tires.  If I’m not singing, this is the thing I love to do’
