On Wednesday 10 February 2021, Gene Watson was reminiscing about ‘Hee Haw’, an American television variety show featuring country music and humour with the fictional rural ‘Kornfield Kounty’ as the backdrop.
‘Thanks to someone telling me that the website, RolandNote, lists Saturday 11 February 1989 as the date I taped a Hee Haw segment, and Reba McEntire was also a guest.
That show was one of my favourites. It was taped in bits and pieces, so I could jump off my bus, tape my performance and head back out on tour.
‘Back in The Fire‘ (written by Mike Reid and Rory Bourke) was a single that year (Billboard Country Music Singles Chart: No.20, 1989 / Canadian RPM Singles Chart: No.24, 1989), so maybe that was the song I sang.
Hard to remember it all from back then’
