On Tuesday 12 November 2024, Gene Watson spoke about the importance, to him, of The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
‘As a member of The Grand Ole Opry, I look forward to every visit because, besides the honour of standing on that sacred stage, I enjoy the opportunity to meet many artists I might not encounter otherwise and, of course, visit with dear friends.
If you’ve never been, I hope you’ll put it on your bucket list, and maybe find the time in 2025 to come enjoy the historic Opry. The backstage tour that’s offered is something fun to see too.
Not long ago backstage, on Thursday 4 April 2024, I was honoured to meet the Bluegrass band, Sister Sadie, who are 3 times ‘Entertainers of The Year’, with several Grammy nominations and one more just received for 2025. All of them are so talented, and it was just a pleasure to speak to them.
Of course, it’s always a highlight to visit with one of the greatest of all time – the very best singer/songwriter/musician and golfer – Vince Gill.
Oh, I forgot to mention one of the nicest guys in the business. Besides all of his solo work, he’s now a member of a band you may have heard of – The Eagles.
One of the fun moments is when a band is jamming in their dressing room.
In the photo (above), Rhonda and I were working up a song to do on stage, one written by Ms. Erin Enderlin, who just happened to be backstage that night.
We always hope we do the song justice when the songwriter is there!
And, of course, it’s fun to see my band having their own opportunity to chat with some of their heroes.
I always appreciate how they make me shine with their incredible musicianship’
