On Monday 20 May 2024, Gene Watson reflected on a fun weekend of tour dates in Oklahoma and Texas.
‘We started our weekend off on Saturday 18 May 2024 in Hinton, Oklahoma at Sugar Creek Casino.
Our buddies, The Bellamy Brothers (Howard & David Bellamy), opened the show and asked me to join them onstage for the song you’ve been hearing, ‘Forever Ain’t Long Enough’. That heartfelt song was written by David Bellamy, back when his label felt it was ‘too country’ for them to release at that time.
I’m grateful for David and Howard asking me to record that one with them.
It’s been a fun ride, making the video and debuting it live on The Grand Ole Opry.
On Sunday afternoon, 19 May 2024, it was another good time with old friends as we performed in Adkins, Texas for the ‘No Bull Radio God and Country’ show.
I enjoyed a great visit with the legendary, Dickey Lee.
Dickey is one of the few that has successfully had big hits on both the pop and the country charts.
I’m sure you know his songs, like ‘I Saw Linda Yesterday’, ‘Never Ending Song of Love’, ‘Patches’, ‘Laurie’, ‘Rocky’, and more.
Dickey is also in the Songwriters Hall of Fame for his many big hits recorded by others; ‘She Thinks I Still Care’ was recorded by George Jones (Saturday 12 September 1931 – Friday 26 April 2013), ‘I’ve Been Around Enough To Know’ was recorded by John Schneider, ‘Keeper of The Stars’ was recorded by Tracy Byrd, ‘The Door Is Always Open’ was recorded by Dave & Sugar, ‘Let’s Fall To Pieces Together’ was recorded by George Strait, ‘You’re The First Time I’ve Thought About Leaving’ was recorded by Reba McEntire, and many more.
Also at the Adkins, Texas show, I got a chance to catch up with two terrific singers, Deborah Allen and Linda Davis.
If either of these ladies are at a show near you, you don’t want to miss it.
I know you remember Deborah’s huge crossover hit, ‘Baby I Lied’ (written by Deborah Allen, Rafe Van Hoy and Rory Bourke) among others, and Linda won a Grammy for her duet with Reba McEntire on ‘Does He Love You’.
They’ve both had great careers and are still going strong’
