On Monday 10 March 2025, Gene Watson reflected on his time, in the 1960s and 1970s, when he spent time playing real country music with the members of his family.

‘This old photo is proof that I needed to give up that hat.
This is me with my brother, Eddie.
I’m not sure who we were playing for, but we always enjoyed just sitting around and pickin’ a few to anyone who’d listen.
This was about 1979, I was playing an Ovation guitar then, and Eddie was playing a Gibson.
Eddie played in several bands back then.
Of course, he was one of my original band members, when we were known as Gene Watson & The Other Four.
The other four were all my cousins!
Eddie, Pat, George, and Donnie Watson.
Later on, we added Ronny Burk on steel.
We had a great time performing together, and working the big clubs around the Houston area.
Those were some fun times!
You know, it was all real country music in those days!’
