Gene Watson Peer's Quote from Jimmy Pasquale: January 2007

Gene Watson's Peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as 'the singer's singer' - and rightly so!

All of Gene Watson's Peers, who were contacted by The Gene Watson Fan Site, during 2007, were most gracious with their time and words.

It is here, within this special part of The Gene Watson Fan Site, that you have an opportunity to read a quote from Jimmy Pasquale, which he submitted to this site on Tuesday 2 January 2007.

Sean Brady would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' to Jimmy Pasquale who has made a special contribution to a unique part of this online 'celebration of a Lone Star Hero'.

Jimmy Pasquale
This quote was submitted on Tuesday 2 January 2007.

'Gene is a singer's singer.

One of the best voices country music has had the privilege to know.

I'm proud that he chose 'Bottle of Tears' (written by Joe Allen, Jimmy Pasquale and D. Lay) as one of his songs to record, and honoured to be able to call him a friend'.

Thank you, Jimmy Pasquale, for your support of Gene Watson.

About Jimmy Pasquale...

Jimmy Pasquale was the co-founder and recording guitarist, between 1955 and 1959, of Meridian, Mississippi-based group Darryl Vincent & The Flares, and saw the release of several recordings, including 'Daddy's Goin' Batty', 'Mercy Me', 'Wild, Wild Party' and 'Because I Love You'.

In 1959, George Cummings, who named and was the co-founder of the now legendary group Dr. Hook, joined The Flares.

In 1960, The Flares recorded two singles, 'Little Girl' and 'Unexpectedly', for New Orleans-based Krash Records.

In 1971, The Flares signed with Astro Records, which was based in Mobile, Alabama where they recorded one album.

Jimmy Pasquale & The Original Flares: Jerry Hutchinson (drums), Bryan Cummins (saxophone), Jimmy Pasquale (vocals and guitar), Andy T (rhythm guitar), Chip Graham (bass guitar) and Tommy Tyson (piano)

Jimmy Pasquale's career expanded over forty years since those early teenage days.

In 1986, Jimmy Pasquale co-founded Nashville recording studio, Magic Tracks, with jazz guitarist Mike Elliott and businessman Charles Tucker.

Jimmy Pasquale has co-written with Hall of Fame singer / songwriter Mickey Newbury (Sunday 19 May 1940 - Sunday 29 September 2002), Bobby Whitlock (of Derek & The Dominoes fame) and Grammy Award Winner Johnny Christopher.

In 1986, Jimmy Pasquale's publishing company, Jimette Publishing, was formed; it changed to J. Pasquale Music in 2001.

Jimmy Pasquale's compositions have been recorded by a number of very important artists, including the following:

Ed Bruce (Friday 29 December 1939 - Friday 8 January 2021) recorded Jimmy Pasquale's 'Someone Who Would Care' and included the track on 'Tell 'Em I've Gone Crazy' (MCA Records, 1984).

Gene Watson recorded Jimmy Pasquale's 'Bottle of Tears' (co-written with Joe Allen and D. Lay) and included the track on 'Starting New Memories' (Epic Records, 1986).

On Monday 9 May 2011 (United Kingdom and Ireland) and Tuesday 17 May 2011 (worldwide), England's Hux Records released 'Memories to Burn' & 'Starting New Memories' as a 2-for-1 CD set.

Ray Charles (Tuesday 23 September 1930 - Thursday 10 June 2004) recorded Jimmy Pasquale's 'Slip Away' and included the track on 'From The Pages of My Mind' (Columbia Records, 1986).
