Gene Watson’s Peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as ‘the singer’s singer’ – and rightly so!
All of Gene Watson’s Peers, who were contacted by The Gene Watson Fan Site, during 2004, were most gracious with their time and words.
It is here, within this special part of The Gene Watson Fan Site, that you have an opportunity to read a quote from Stan Laundon, which he submitted to this site on Thursday 23 September 2004.
Sean Brady would like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to Stan Laundon who has made a special contribution to a unique part of this online ‘celebration of a Lone Star Hero’.

‘I was visiting the United States to attend the Country Music Association Awards Show & Disc Jockey Convention in Nashville in October 1980.
During our vacation, we had visited Birmingham, Alabama when a travelling companion had noticed in a local newspaper that Gene was doing a show in a nearby town that very night. We did check availability and were told that tickets would be put aside for us at the door.
I did make myself known to Gene’s road crew and it was arranged for me to do an interview with him after the show.
I think Gene was somewhat amazed to find a guy from the BBC in England in this small town in Alabama and he was only too pleased to speak to me – even though he was exhausted after a great show singing all his hits to a packed audience.
I taped the interview for my BBC Radio Cleveland ‘Country Time’ show’
Thank you, Stan Laundon, for your support of Gene Watson.
