Gene Watson Peer’s Quote from Bobby Marquez: September 2009

Gene Watson’s Peers within the country music industry believe in the sheer talent of this unassuming man from east Texas, so much so that Gene is regarded by many of them as ‘the singer’s singer’ – and rightly so!

All of Gene Watson’s Peers, who were contacted by The Gene Watson Fan Site, during 2009, were most gracious with their time and words.

It is here, within this special part of The Gene Watson Fan Site, that you have an opportunity to read a quote from Bobby Marquez, which he submitted to this site on Wednesday 9 September 2009.

Sean Brady would like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to Bobby Marquez who made a special contribution to this unique part of this online ‘celebration of a Lone Star Hero’.

‘Gene Watson is a great singer!

He has his own style and sound.  You know him when you hear him.

He is a good guy too!

I’d like to see him become a member of The Grand Ole Opry.

Gene Watson should and will be in The Country Music Hall of Fame someday.

Gene Watson is definitely one of the best singers to ever sing a country song!’

Thank you, Bobby Marquez, for your support of Gene Watson.

About Bobby Marquez…

Bobby Marquez

Bobby Marquez lives by the words ‘Be better to your neighbours and you’ll have better neighbours‘.

Those words were also made famous by one of Bobby Marquez’s musical heroes and fellow Texan, Ernest Tubb (Monday 9 February 1914 – Thursday 6 September 1984), who, along with his Texas Troubadours, put their hearts and souls into the music and simply made people want to get up and dance.

The same can be said of Bobby Marquez and his music; when you hear tracks from his self-titled debut album, ‘Bobby Marquez’ (Grande Star Records, 2009), you can’t help but move your feet and hum along.

Bobby Marquez’s self-titled debut album, ‘Bobby Marquez’ (Grande Star Records, 2009), included the following tracks:

‘She’s Not From Texas’ (written by Karen Staley and Anita Cochran)
‘That’s Life’ (co-written by Karen Staley and Bobby Marquez)
‘Just Look At Me’
‘Beer Pressure’
‘Touch of A Woman’
‘Overtime’
‘Complicated Woman’
‘Whisper’
‘Marlboro Man’
‘Neon Tan’

Bobby Marquez’s catchy melodies have soared up the Texas Music Chart with two Top 20 hits and ‘That’s Life’ (written by Karen Staley and Bobby Marquez), his first No.1 single.

Bobby Marquez’s breakout single, ‘She’s Not From Texas’ (written by Karen Staley and Anita Cochran), stayed on the Texas Music Chart for an impressive twenty-six weeks.

Bobby Marquez grew up in Freer, Texas where he became a baseball champion; it wasn’t until he was a teenager that he even picked up a guitar and wrote his first song.

After high school, Bobby Marquez hit the stage and performed alongside John Michael Montgomery, Martina McBride, Ray Benson & Asleep at The Wheel, Neal McCoy, Clay Walker, Rick Trevino, Lonestar, Leona Williams, Earl Thomas Conley (Friday 17 October 1941 – Wednesday 10 April 2019), Mel Tillis (Monday 8 August 1932 – Sunday 19 November 2017), Jimmy C. Newman (Monday 29 August 1927 – Saturday 21 June 2014), Trent Willmon, Billy Currington, The Grascals, and Riders In The Sky.

One of the greatest moments in Bobby Marquez’s country music career was singing on stage with legendary Ray Price (Tuesday 12 January 1926 – Monday 16 December 2013), a man which he considers had one of the greatest voices in the country music genre.

Bobby Marquez’s recording of ‘Neon Tan’ with country music legend, Johnny Rodriguez, quickly became a college campus favourite.

Bobby Marquez continues to reach audiences worldwide with performances on the radio and internet on such shows as the ‘WSM Opry Star Spotlight’ and ‘Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree’.  A coveted spot on the stage at Nashville’s Country Music Association (CMA) Music Fesitval allowed Bobby Marquez the opportunity to entertain fans from as far away as Australia, Portugal, Sweden, Texas and New York City.
